“I’d like to thank the Good Lord for making me a Yankee.” – Joe DiMaggio
This is my first blog. This is my first time sharing about my passion, the New York Yankees, and I’m sure everybody is questioning, “what does this girl know that I don’t know?” Or, better yet, “what does this girl know about baseball AT ALL?”
Yankees fans are everywhere. Bandwagon fans, as several other franchises refer to them. But for me, the Yankees have been a part of my life since the very beginning. Mom and Dad fought over whose team would win over and, naturally, my mother prevailed in making us Yankee fans. Imagine my sisters and me being Orioles fans as my father wished…now THAT is depressing.
I’ve been a Yankee fan for 21 years. 21 years and I have witnessed five World Series Championships. I’ve been around for the entire Core Four Era. I watched Mr. November take his place in history with one smooth swing. I’ve seen the highs and lows regarding the Yankees organization, from the Aaron Boone sleeper home run in Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS to the A-Rod allegations to George Steinbrenner’s emotional death. I’ve witnessed the Yankees-Sox brawls, the massive money-spending sprees and alllllll the Yankee-bashing jokes in the world. Plus, I got a chance to spend time in the old and new Yankee Stadiums: the place of legends. And no matter what has happened to the Yankees success in previous years, I’m still here, on this crazy roller coaster of emotion that I like to call the MLB season. The even crazier thing is that my life revolves around that.
So here I am: A woman and a die-hard Yankees fan ready to spill my guts and opinions on the team I’ve so passionately loved my whole life. Now it’s up to you to listen. I’m not professional analyst, but I’m sure as hell an expert in this field. Here comes the baseball season, are you ready?
