Present or future?

It is so easy to say that the future is now. That’s what the motto has been for the Yankees as rookies have climbed through the ranks to make their major league debuts.

But if the future is here, how come they aren’t doing better now? It’s not the future that is the problem…it is the present. Right now, they are not getting it done when they need to.

Worry about the future? No, it is time to get stuff done NOW!

The present is happening right now, and the Yankees aren’t taking advantage of it. With their unfortunate skid last week, they’ve come back to take two of three from AL East rival Toronto and hope to surge forward. They currently hold a 1/2 game lead over the surging Blue Jays after surrendering their previous 8 game lead.

So what is happening? Severino came up from the minors and made a statement but is still looking for his first big league win. Is that the fault of this future star? No…it is the fault of the present lineup for New York.

Severino has posted a 0-2 record with a 3.18 ERA, 18 Ks and 4 BBs. He has given up 7 runs in three games, giving the offense ample amount of time to come back from that. But the problem is, each time he pitches, the offense falters.

Forget about the focus on the future. Right now is what the Yankees need to focus on. Because right now, they are only a 1/2 game up and are in danger of sinking fast in the AL East standings if their offense continues to be inconsistent.

Severino is throwing heat and painting the corners like he has been doing it for years. Yet he still can’t help the offense. The Yankees can score three runs easily…they’ve done it before. It is time to focus on the now instead of what is to come.

Now the Yankees need to focus on what they’ve got and make it better. They’ve already proven they’re good…now it is time to carry that into October.
