The author is me…yup, that crazy girl flashing her Captain Clutch shirt in the heart of Oriole Park at Camden Yards. I’m just that
typical 21 year-old girl who is obsessed with the New York Yankees and baseball in general. No big deal.
My name is Allison and I’m from upstate NY. Even in New York, I’m still a solid six hours from the Stadium, so I stick to keeping track of my boys on the television.
I used to play softball and love playing sports, including my new obsession, Ultimate Frisbee. I got it from my Momma.
Mom grew up in Central New York and her father and mother introduced her to baseball. All her life she collected box scores from games, listened to each defining Yankee moment and found herself crushing on Ron Guidry. And cheering for her hero, Bucky Dent.
Dad grew up lakeside in upstate NY and was fashioned into an Orioles fan by his father. Mom and Dad married, Mom gave him an ultimatum. The power of love transformed my father into a Yankees fan. Way to go, Mom.
That’s how I came to be the obsessive, die-hard Yankees fan I am today. It’s been one hell of a journey (even though its only been 21 years) and the Yankees have been there for me through it all. And I can honestly say, I don’t know what I’ll do when Derek Jeter retires.
I always appreciate feedback and comments on what you think of my writing. Who knows if I’m right or not, but to me, baseball is my passion so I sure as hell will speak my mind when it comes to the Yankees.
Welcome to the female side of baseball…thank you for joining me!
